8.7 曾子曰：“士不可以不弘毅1，任重而道远。仁以为己任，不亦重乎？死而后已，不亦远乎？”
【译文】
曾子说：“士不可以不宽宏坚毅，因为他们责任重大，路途遥远。把实现仁道作为自己的责任，这不是很重大吗？一直到死才卸下重任，这不是很遥远吗？”

【English Translation】
Zeng Zi said: “Scholars must be magnanimous and resolute, because they have a great responsibility and a long way to go. Taking the practice of benevolence as one’s own responsibility, isn’t this very significant? And not relieving himself of this great responsibility until death, isn’t this very faraway?”
