18.2 柳下惠为士师1，三黜。人曰：“子未可以去乎？”曰：“直道而事人，焉往而不三黜？枉道而事人，何必去父母之邦？”
【译文】
柳下惠担任典狱官，多次被罢免。 有人对他说：“您不可以离开鲁国吗？” 他说：“坚守正道而事奉人，到哪里不是屡被罢免？如果按照邪道事奉人，那又何必要离开自己的父母之国呢？”

【English Translation】
Liu Xia Hui1 served as a prison official and was dismissed many times. Someone said to him: “Can’t you leave the State of Lu and take up an official post in other States?” He said: “If a person adheres to the righteous Way and holds an official position, where would he not be dismissed repeatedly? If a person deviates from the righteous Way and holds an official position, then why is it necessary to leave his native State where his parents live?”
