14.43 原壤夷俟1。子曰：“幼而不孙弟2，长而无述焉3，老而不死，是为贼4。”以杖叩其胫。

原壤伸开双腿坐在地上等待孔子。孔子说：“你年幼时不懂得逊悌的礼节，年长后没有可以称道的事业成就，年老了只是偷生不死，真是个祸害。”说着，孔子用手杖敲了敲原壤的小腿。

Yuan Rang1 sat on the ground with his legs stretched out waiting for Confucius. Confucius said: “When you were young, you did not know how to respect and obey your elder brother, and when you grew older, you did not do anything praiseworthy, but only keep alive without goals and make trouble.” Saying this, Confucius tapped Yuan Rang’s calf with his walking stick.
