1.8 子曰：“君子不重则不威1，学则不固。主忠信。无友不如己者2。过，则勿惮改。”
【译文】
孔子说：“君子如果不庄重就不会有威严，他即使学习了也不会牢固。为人要以忠信为主。不要与不同于自己的人交友。有了过失，就不要害怕改正。”

孔子说：“君子如果不庄重，就没有威严，即便学习了，也难以稳固。为人应以忠信为要。每个朋友都有值得我学习或反思的地方。有了过失，不要畏惧去纠正。”

Confucius said: “A noble person who lacks dignity is not majestic, and even though he learns, he can hardly be mature and steady. As a person, faithfulness and sincerity are the fundamentals. People may learn a lot from any of their friends. When making mistakes, one should make corrections without fear.”
