11.11 颜渊死，门人欲厚葬之。子曰：“不可。” 门人厚葬之。子曰：“回也视予犹父也，予不得视犹子也。非我也，夫二三子也。”

颜渊死了，孔子的学生们想厚葬他。孔子说：“不可以。” 学生们还是很隆重地安葬了他。孔子说：“颜回呀，他把我当作父亲一样，我却无法把他当作儿子一样。这不是我的主张，是这些学生这样做呀。”

When Yan Yuan died, Confucius’s students wanted to give him an elaborate burial. Confucius said: “Don’t do this.” But the students still gave him an elaborate burial. Confucius said: “Yan Hui treated me like his father, but I was unable to treat him as my son by making the funeral conform to the Rites. It was not my idea, it was what these students did.”
