15.8 子曰：“可与言而不与之言，失人；不可与言而与之言，失言。知者不失人，亦不失言。”
【译文】
孔子说：“可以与他谈话的人而不与他谈，这是错失了人；不可与他谈话的人而与他谈了，这是白费了言语。聪明的人既不错失人，也不白费言语。”

孔子说：“可以与他谈话的人而不与他谈，这是错失了一位可交谈之人；不可与他谈话的人而与他谈了，不仅白费口舌，失信于人。智慧的人既不错失可交谈之人，也不会白费口舌。”
【English Translation】
Confucius said: “If one fails to talk to someone with whom he can communicate, he would lose this person. If one talks with someone with whom he cannot communicate, it is not only a waste of words, but also a breach of trust. A wise person will neither lose those who can be communicated with nor waste words.”
