14.37 子曰：“贤者辟世1，其次辟地，其次辟色，其次辟言。”子曰：“作者七人矣。”
【译文】
孔子说：“贤者避开昏乱的社会而隐居，次一等的避开一地而另择一地，再次一等的避开难看的脸色，再次一等的避开不好的言语。” 孔子又说：“像这样做的已经有七个人了。”

孔子说：“贤者避开昏乱无道的社会而隐居。或者，道不在一地就避开一地而另择他处。又或者，如果君主不信任，而表现出在神色上，就离开。如果君主说出难听的言语了，就离开。” 孔子又说：“像这样隐遁而去的已经有七个人了。”
【English Translation】
Confucius said: “The sage person would live in seclusion to avoid the disorderly and immoral society. Alternatively, if the Way is not found in one place, he will avoid that place and choose another. If the monarch does not trust him and shows it in countenance, he will leave. If the monarch utters unpleasant words, he will also leave.” Confucius also said: “So far there have already been seven persons who have gone into seclusion like this.”
