20.3 孔子曰：“不知命，无以为君子也。不知礼，无以立也。不知言，无以知人也。”
【译文】
孔子说：“不懂得命，不能成为君子。不懂得礼，不能立身于社会。不懂得辨析别人的言语，不能了解人。”

孔子说：“不知天命，不能成为君子。不懂得礼，不能立身于社会。不能够辨析别人的言语，则无法了解人。”
【English Translation】
Confucius said: “If a person does not know the meaning of life, he cannot become a noble person. If a person does not understand the Rites, he cannot establish himself in society. If a person cannot recognize the true meaning of others’ words, then he cannot understand people.”
