14.35 子曰：“莫我知也夫！”子贡曰：“何为其莫知子也？”子曰：“不怨天，不尤人1，下学而上达。知我者其天乎！”
【译文】
孔子说：“没有人了解我啊！”子贡说：“为什么没有人了解您呢？”孔子说：“不怨恨天，不责备人，下学人事而上达天命。了解我的大概是天吧！”

孔子说：“没有人了解我啊！”子贡说：“夫子德高望重，天下皆知，为什么说没有人了解您呢？”孔子说：“不怨天尤人，反求诸己，从低处做起并学习人事，便可通达天理。了解我的大概只有天吧！”
【English Translation】
Confucius said: “No one understands me!” Zi Gong said: “You have high virtue and prestige, and are known all over the world. Why do you say that no one understands you?” Confucius said: “I don’t complain to Heaven, but introspect my fault, and start from the bottom and learn about human affairs, then I can understand the Principles of Heaven. Perhaps only Heaven understands me!”
