8.13 子曰：“笃信好学，守死善道。危邦不入，乱邦不居。天下有道则见1，无道则隐。邦有道，贫且贱焉，耻也；邦无道，富且贵焉，耻也。”
【译文】
孔子说：“信念坚定而且好学，宁死也坚守大道。不进入局势危急的国家，不居住在动荡混乱的国家。天下政治清明就出来效力，天下政治黑暗就隐居。国家政治清明，自己却身处贫贱，这是耻辱；国家政治黑暗，自己却享有富贵，这也是耻辱。”

孔子说：“笃信真理而且好学，宁死也坚定地践行大道。不进入局势危乱的国家，不停留在动荡混乱的国家。天下政治清明就出来效力，天下政治黑暗就隐居。国家政治清明，自己却身处贫贱，这是耻辱；国家政治黑暗，自己却享有富贵，这也是耻辱。”
【English Translation】
Confucius said: “A person should sincerely believe in the truth and study hard for it, and practice the Way firmly even if he would die. He will not enter States in perilous situation or stay in States in turmoil. When the world is politically clear, he comes out to serve the government. When the world is politically dark, he goes into seclusion. It is a disgrace if someone is in poverty while the State is politically clear. It is also a disgrace if someone enjoys wealth and honor while the State is politically dark.”
