13.2 仲弓为季氏宰，问政。子曰：“先有司，赦小过1，举贤才。”曰：“焉知贤才而举之？”子曰：“举尔所知。尔所不知，人其舍诸？”

仲弓任季氏家宰，问孔子怎样治理政事。 孔子说：“先使办事人员各任其事，原谅别人的小过失，举用优秀人才。” 仲弓问：“怎样能识别优秀人才而举用他呢？” 孔子说：“举用你所了解的人才。那些你不了解的人才，别人会舍弃不举用吗？”

【English Translation】
When Zhong Gong served as household official in Ji’s family, he asked Confucius how to govern political affairs. Confucius said: “First, a leader should make each official fulfill their respective duties, forgive others’ minor mistakes, and recommend talents with both virtue and ability.” Zhong Gong asked: “How can I identify and recommend talents with both virtue and ability?” Confucius said: “Just recommend the talents you know. Those talents whom you do not know will not neglected by others either.”
