6.22 樊迟问知。子曰：“务民之义1，敬鬼神而远之，可谓知矣。”问仁。曰：“仁者先难而后获，可谓仁矣。”
【译文】
樊迟问怎样才算聪明。 孔子说：“把力量用在人事方面的道义之上，尊敬鬼神而远离它，这可说是聪明的。” 樊迟又问怎样才是仁。 孔子说：“有仁德的人遇到困难的时候做在前，获取成果的时候退在后，这可说是仁了。”

樊迟请教孔子什么是智慧。 孔子说：“把力量用在人事方面的道义之上，对鬼神敬而远之，这可说是是智慧了。” 樊迟又问怎样才是仁。 孔子说：“有仁德的人先承担困难且当为之事，再考虑获取成果，这可说是仁了。”
【English Translation】
Fan Chi1 asked Confucius what the wisdom is. Confucius said: “If a person makes efforts to the righteousness of human affairs and keep a respectful distance from ghosts and gods, it can be considered as wisdom.”
Fan Chi further asked what the benevolence is. Confucius said: “If a person first undertakes what is difficult and supposed to do, and then considers obtaining results, it can be considered benevolent.”
