17.24 子贡曰：“君子亦有恶乎？”子曰：“有恶。恶称人之恶者，恶居下流而讪上者1，恶勇而无礼者，恶果敢而窒者2。” 曰：“赐也亦有恶乎？”“恶徼以为知者3，恶不孙以为勇者，恶讦以为直者4。”
【译文】
子贡说：“君子也有憎恶的事吗？” 孔子说：“有憎恶的事。憎恶喜欢议论别人坏处的人，憎恶居下位而毁谤位高者的人，憎恶勇敢而不懂礼的人，憎恶果敢而顽固不化的人。” 孔子接着问：“赐，你也有憎恶的事吗？” 子贡说：“我憎恶抄袭别人而自以为聪明的人，憎恶不懂谦虚而自以为勇敢的人，憎恶揭人阴私而自以为正直的人。”

子贡说：“君子也有厌恶的人吗？” 孔子说：“有。厌恶喜欢议论别人坏处的人，厌恶居下位而毁谤位高者的人，厌恶勇敢而不懂礼的人，厌恶果敢而顽固不化的人。” 孔子接着问：“赐，你也有厌恶的人吗？” 子贡说：“我厌恶把自己的偏见认为是最高智慧的人，厌恶不懂谦虚，恃才傲物而自以为勇敢的人，厌恶揭人隐私而自以为正直率真的人。”
【English Translation】
Zi Gong1 said: “Does a noble person also have someone he dislikes?”
Confucius said: “Yes. I dislike those who like to talk about the shortcomings of others, those who slander those in higher positions while he is in a lower position, those who are brave but do not understand the Rites, and those who are resolute but stubborn.”
Confucius then asked: “Zi Gong, do you also have someone you dislike?”
Zi Gong said: “I dislike those who regard their biases as the supreme wisdom, those who are not modest, those who are arrogant with their talents and consider themselves brave, and those who expose others’ privacy and consider themselves upright and sincere.”
