阳货篇 17.10

17.10　子谓伯鱼曰：“女为《周南》、《召南》矣乎¹？人而不为《周南》、《召南》，其犹正墙面而立也与²？”

【译文】

孔子对伯鱼说：“你学了《周南》、《召南》的诗吗？一个人如果不学《周南》、《召南》，那就好像面对墙壁而站立着吧？”

孔子对伯鱼说：“你学了《周南》、《召南》的诗吗？一个人如果不学《周南》、《召南》，那就好像面对墙壁而站立着，眼前无光，脚下无路。”

【English Translation】

Confucius said to Bo Yu¹: “Have you studied the poems of ‘Zhou Nan’ and ‘Zhao Nan’²? If a person does not study ‘Zhou Nan’ and ‘Zhao Nan’, it is like standing in front of a wall, with no light in front and no way to go.”
