7.8 子曰：“不愤不启1，不悱不发2。举一隅不以三隅反3，则不复也。”

孔子说：“教导学生，不到他力求明白而未能明白的时候，我不去开导他；不到他想说却又说不出的时候，我不去启发他。对他举出一个角，他不能推知另外三个角，我就不再教他了。”

【English Translation】
Confucius said: “When teaching a student, I do not enlighten him unless he strives to understand something but fails to do so. I do not guide him unless he wants to say something but he cannot express it. If I show him one ‘corner’ but he cannot infer the other three ‘corners’, I will no longer teach him.”
