7.36 子曰：“奢则不孙1，俭则固2。与其不孙也，宁固。”

孔子说：“豪奢就会显得傲慢，省俭就会显得固陋。与其傲慢，宁可固陋。”

孔子说：“豪奢就不会谦逊，省俭就会显得封闭固陋。与其不谦逊，宁可固陋。”
【English Translation】
Confucius said: “Extravagance leads to lack of humility. Frugality, on the other hand, may seem close-minded and stubborn. But rather than lacking in humility, it is better to be close-minded and stubborn.”
