7.35 子疾病1，子路请祷。子曰：“有诸？”子路对曰：“有之。《诔》曰2：‘祷尔于上下神祇3。’”子曰：“丘之祷久矣。”

孔子病重，子路请求为他祈祷。 孔子说：“有这事吗？” 子路回答：“有的。《诔》中说：‘为你向天神地祇祈祷。’” 孔子说：“我已经祈祷很久了。”

【English Translation】
When Confucius was seriously ill, Zi Lu1 requested to pray for Confucius. Confucius said: “Is there such a thing?” Zi Lu replied: “Yes, because the ‘Eulogy’ says: ‘Pray for you to the gods of heaven and earth.‘” Confucius said: “I have been praying for a long time.”
