8.21 子曰：“禹，吾无间然矣1。菲饮食而致孝乎鬼神2，恶衣服而致美乎黻冕3，卑宫室而尽力乎沟洫4。禹，吾无间然矣。”
【译文】
孔子说：“禹啊，我对他是没有什么可批评的了。他自己的饮食粗陋，却尽心于鬼神的祭祀；自己的穿着破旧，却把祭服做得很华美；自己的住房低矮，却尽力于农田水利。禹啊，我对他是没有什么可批评的了。”

孔子说：“禹啊，我对他是无可非议的了。他自己的饮食粗陋，对鬼神的祭祀却非常尽心和隆重；自己的穿着简陋，祭祀的礼服却很华美；自己的住房低矮，却尽力于农田水利。禹啊，我对他是无可非议的了。”
【English Translation】
Confucius said: “I have nothing to criticize about Yu1. He ate simply, but he was offered sacrifices to the gods with great care and solemnity. He wore simply, but his sacrificial robes were magnificent. His own house was low, but he devoted himself to the improvement of farmland and water conservancy. Yu, I have nothing to criticize about him.”
