微子篇 18.10

18.10　周公谓鲁公曰¹：“君子不施其亲²，不使大臣怨乎不以³。故旧无大故⁴，则不弃也。无求备于一人。”

【译文】

周公对鲁公说：“君子不冷落他的亲族，不使大臣怨恨自己没被任用。老臣故友没有严重的过错，就不要遗弃他。不要对一个人求全责备。”

周公对鲁公说：“君子不疏远或遗弃他的亲族，不使大臣报怨自己得不到任用。老臣故友没有严重的过错，就不要舍弃不用。不要对一个人求全责备。”

【English Translation】

Duke of Zhou said to Duke of Lu¹: “A noble person does not alienate or abandon his relatives, and does not make ministers complain about not being appointed. The old ministers and old friends with no serious faults should not be abandoned. Do not be overly demanding to others.”
