14.11 子曰：“孟公绰为赵、魏老则优1，不可以为滕、薛大夫2。”
【译文】
孔子说：“孟公绰若去做晋国赵氏、魏氏的家臣，则才力有余，但不能够做滕、薛这样小国的大夫。”

孔子说：“孟公绰若去做晋国赵氏、魏氏的家宰，则才干绰绰有余，但还不能够做滕、薛这样小国的大夫。”
【English Translation】
Confucius said: “Meng Gong Chuo1 would be more than capable if he were to be the house steward of the Family Zhao and Wei in the State of Jin. However, he is not yet able to be a minister of the small States like Teng and Xue.”
