1.7 子夏曰1：“贤贤易色2；事父母，能竭其力；事君，能致其身3；与朋友交，言而有信。虽曰未学，吾必谓之学矣。”
【译文】
子夏说：“尊崇贤者而改变喜好女色之心，侍奉父母能尽心竭力，事奉君上能不惜性命，与朋友交往中说话有诚信。这样的人即使没有经过学习，我也一定说他学习过了。”

子夏说：“敬重贤能之人而以其取代喜好外物之念，侍奉父母能竭尽心力，辅佐君上能不惜生命，与朋友相交能诚实守信。像这样的人，即便未曾专门学习过，我也定会说他是有学问的。”

Zi Xia4 said: “If there is a person who respects sage people rather than pursues worldly things, makes every effort to take care of parents, devotes his life to serving the lord, and keeps his word when making friends, I would consider this person knowledgeable even though he has never been educated.”
