1.6 子曰：“弟子入则孝1，出则弟，谨而信，泛爱众而亲仁。行有余力，则以学文。”
【译文】
孔子说：“一个年轻人，在家要孝顺父母，出门要敬顺兄长，谨慎而有信用，泛爱众人而亲近仁者。能做到这些尚有余力，那就去学习文章典籍。”

孔子说：“年轻的人，在家要对父母孝顺，外出要对兄长恭敬，谨慎且讲信用，泛爱大众且亲近仁德之人。若做到这些仍有余力，就去学习文献典籍。”

Confucius said: “The youth should be filial to parents at home and respectful to elder brothers and sisters when being out of home. They should also act prudently and maintain integrity, love all the people, but stay close to persons with benevolence. As soon as a person has finished the above, he may begin to learn literatures and books.”
