1.2 有子曰1：“其为人也孝弟2，而好犯上者，鲜矣3；不好犯上，而好作乱者，未之有也。君子务本，本立而道生。孝弟也者，其为仁之本与4！”
【译文】
有子说：“一个人孝顺父母，敬爱兄长，却喜欢触犯在上位的人，这种人是很少的；不喜欢犯上却喜欢作乱，这种人是不会有的。君子行事致力于根本，确立了根本，道也就产生了。孝悌就是仁道的根本吧！”
【YZG解释】
有子说：“若有人能孝顺父母、敬重兄长，却还喜欢冒犯上位者，此类人实为罕见；不喜好冒犯上位者，却喜好制造祸乱，此类人更是不存在的。君子做事注重根本，根本确立后，道也随之产生。孝悌，正是仁道之根本呀！”
【YZG English Translation】
You Zi5 said: “It is rare that a person who is filial to parents and respects elders brothers and sisters would offend supervisors; It is never found that someone who prefers not to offend supervisors would rebel against government. A noble person devotes his efforts to the roots, for as soon as the roots are established, the Way naturally arises. Filial piety and brotherly respect are the very roots of benevolence!”
