1.11 子曰：“父在，观其志；父没1，观其行；三年无改于父之道，可谓孝矣。”
【译文】
孔子说：“父亲在世时，观察儿子的志向；父亲去世后，观察儿子的行为；他能三年不改变父亲生前的行事之道，可说是尽孝了。”

孔子说：“父亲在世时，观察儿子的志向；父亲去世后，观察儿子的所作所为；他能多年不改变对父亲为人之道的缅怀与尊重，就可说是尽孝了。”
【YZG English Translation】
Confucius said: “To see whether or not a son is filial, a few points need to be noted. When his father is alive, you may observe the son’s aspiration. After his father passed away, you may observe the son’s behavior. If the son hasn’t changed his reverence to his father’s Way for three years after father’s death, then he may be considered filial.”
