13.25 子曰：“君子易事而难说也。说之不以道，不说也。及其使人也，器之1。小人难事而易说也。说之虽不以道，说也。及其使人也，求备焉。”
【译文】
孔子说：“为君子做事容易，但要得他喜欢却难。不用正道去讨他喜欢，他不会喜欢。而等到他使用人的时候，他则量才而用。为小人做事很难，但讨他喜欢却容易。即使不用正道去讨他喜欢，他也会喜欢。而等到使用人的时候，他则求全责备。”

孔子说：“君子容易事奉，但很难取悦他。如果你不在正道上，他是不会喜欢的。但当他用人的时候，他则量才而用，充分发挥才干，做不到的也不苛求。小人很难事奉，但取悦他却容易。即使不用正道去讨他喜欢，他也会喜欢。但当他用人的时候，他则求全责备，十分苛刻。”
【English Translation】
Confucius said: “A noble person is easy to serve, but hard to please. If you are not on the righteous path, he will not like it. But when he employs people, he uses them according to their ability, and does not demand what they cannot do. A mean person is hard to serve, but easy to please. Even if you do not use the right way to please him, he will still like it. But when he employs people, he is very critical and demanding.”
