13.21 子曰：“不得中行而与之，必也狂狷乎1！狂者进取，狷者有所不为也。”
【译文】
孔子说：“得不到言行合乎中道的人进行交往，那就一定是与志高激进的人和拘谨自守的人交往了。志高激进的人能够积极进取，拘谨自守的人对有些事能够不做。”

孔子说：“如果找不到合乎中庸之道的人，那就一定与志高激进的人和拘谨自守的人交往了。志高激进的人能够雄心勃勃、积极进取，拘谨自守的人则耿直坚定，对不该做的事断然不为。”
【English Translation】
Confucius said: “If you cannot find the persons who is in line with the doctrine of the mean, then you must associate with the people who are highly ambitious and enterprising and those who are reserved and self-restrained. The highly ambitious and enterprising people can be full of ambition and proactive, and the reserved and self-restrained people are upright and resolute, and never do what should not be done.”
