9.27 子曰：“衣敝缊袍1，与衣狐貉者立2，而不耻者，其由也与？‘不忮不求，何用不臧3？’”子路终身诵之。子曰：“是道也，何足以臧？”
【译文】
孔子说：“穿着破旧的棉袍与穿着狐貉皮袍的人站在一起，而不感到羞惭的，恐怕只有仲由吧。《诗经》中说：‘不嫉妒，不贪求，做什么还会不好？’”子路听了总是念诵这两句诗。孔子说：“仅做到这点，哪里就能说是很好了？”

【English Translation】
Confucius said: “I am afraid that Zhong You is the only one who does not feel ashamed to stand together with a man in a fox-raccoon fur robe while he himself wears a tattered cotton robe. The “Book of Songs” said: ‘What could go wrong if a person is not jealous and greedy?‘” Zi Lu always recited these two lines of poetry after hearing it. Confucius said: “It is true, but how can it be said to be the best?”
