【English Translation】
Gong Sun Chao1 of the State of Wei asked Zi Gong2: “Zhong Ni (Confucius) is well-versed in all things of the world. Where did he acquire such extensive knowledge?” Zi Gong said: “The Way of King Wen of Zhou and King Wu of Zhou has not perished. Whether or not one can perceive it depends on himself. The virtuous person can understand its vastness, and even the person who is not virtuous can at least see its minor details. There is no place that does not contain the Way of King Wen and King Wu. Where cannot Confucius learn? Why is it necessarily to have a certain teacher?”
