15.2 在陈绝粮，从者病，莫能兴1。子路愠见曰：“君子亦有穷乎？”子曰：“君子固穷2，小人穷斯滥矣3。”

孔子在陈国断绝了粮食，随从的人都病倒了，不能起来。子路恼怒地来见孔子，说：“君子也有这样的困窘吗？”孔子说：“君子固有困窘的时候，而小人在困窘的时候便胡作非为了。”

【English Translation】
Confucius’s food ran out in the State of Chen, and all the students who followed him fell ill and could not get up. Zi Lu came to see Confucius in annoyance and said: “Can a noble person also fall into such a predicament?” Confucius said: “A noble person can stick to his aspiration when he is in distress, while a mean person will act recklessly in distress.”
