5.2　子谓南容¹：“邦有道，不废；邦无道，免于刑戮。”以其兄之子妻之。

孔子谈及南容，说：“国家政治清明，他不会被废弃不用；国家政治黑暗，他能免遭刑罚。”于是把自己兄长的女儿嫁给了他。

【English Translation】

Speaking of Nan Rong¹, Confucius said: “When the state is in a well-regulated political environment, he will not be discarded by the government. When the country is ruled without righteousness, he can avoid the punishment.” Then Confucius married his elder brother’s daughter to Nan Rong.
