八佾篇 3.25

3.25　子谓《韶》¹：“尽美矣，又尽善也。”谓《武》²：“尽美矣，未尽善也。”

【译文】

孔子论《韶》乐，说：“音乐美极了，表现的内容好极了。”论《武》乐，说：“音乐美极了，但表现的内容则有不足。”

孔子论《韶》乐，说：“音乐美极了，可达到本性的至善。”论《武》乐，说：“音乐美极了，但并未达到至善。”

【English Translation】

Speaking of the music “Shao”³, Confucius said: “The music is so beautiful that it reaches the supreme kindness of human’s nature.”. Whereas, speaking of the music “Wu”³, Confucius said: “The music is beautiful but it does not reach the supreme kindness of human’s nature.”
