3.11 或问禘之说。子曰：“不知也。知其说者之于天下也，其如示诸斯乎1！”指其掌。

有人问关于禘祭的道理。孔子说：“我不知道。如果知道这个道理的人治理天下，犹如把东西放在这上面一样容易吧！”他一面说，一面指着手掌。

有人问关于禘礼的内涵和精神。孔子说：“我不知道。如果知道这个的人治理天下，看天下之事，就像呈现在这上面一样清楚明白吧！”他一面说，一面指着手掌。
【English Translation】
Someone asked Confucius about the meaning and spirits of the Ritual of Di2. Confucius said: “I don’t know. If the person who governs the world knows the answer, he would see the affairs of the world very clearly and obviously as if they were presented on it.” As he was speaking, he pointed to his palm.
