10.2　朝，与下大夫言¹，侃侃如也；与上大夫言，訚訚如也²。君在，踧踖如也³，与与如也⁴。

孔子上朝时，与下大夫说话，显得温和快乐；与上大夫说话，显得恭敬正直。君主临朝，孔子显得恭敬不安，仪容合度。

【English Translation】

When Confucius waited for the monarch in the imperial court, he spoke gently and pleasantly with the lower-level officials. When he spoke with the higher-level officials, he was solemn and neutral. When the monarch was in the court, Confucius was respectful and uneasy with appropriate countenance.
