2.8 子夏问孝。子曰：“色难1。有事，弟子服其劳；有酒食，先生馔2，曾是以为孝乎3？”
【译文】
子夏问孔子怎样才是孝。孔子说：“在侍奉父母时能和颜悦色，这才是很难的。若仅仅是有事情由子女去操劳，有酒食先让父母享用，难道这就算是孝了吗？”

子夏请教孔子孝道。孔子说：“侍奉父母时能始终保持和颜悦色，这才是真正困难的。若仅仅是有事情由子女操劳，有酒食先让父母享用，这难道就算是尽孝了吗？”

Zi Xia asked Confucius about filial piety. Confucius said: “It is very difficult for children to take care of parents with a constantly pleasant countenance. If children merely assist parents as needed and provide parents with food and drinks first, can it be considered filial?”
